Focus on Religious Freedom

That's the title of an article in today's Chicago Tribune that focuses on our special exhibit at the Freedom Museum on religious liberty titled "Your Faith, My Freedom." Featured on page 9 of the Metro section in the weekly page devoted to religion, there is a half-page article and captivating photo of visitors engaged with the exhibit. It also includes a few passing quotes from your's truly.

I attended the museum Friday the 12th, and saw the religious freedom exhibit.
My thoughts on free speech in the pulpit were in the 30% minority that favors free speech in the pulpit, according to the exhibit.
I would say first that the wise church would not polarize its members politically, but that should not be the government's decision. The first amendment is clear. The right shall not be infringed.
This seems to be an IRS c3-charity created problem. (which I believe was only created in the LBJ era, am I right?) Churches could avoid this problem by giving up that status.
I told my wife at the exhibit that churches sell their soul to the devil for a tax break.
What could it cost a "for-profit" church to give up thier c3? I would think that they could donate large amounts of money to other charities and end up declaring little profit after payroll and other expenses. Property tax would be the only thing that would kill them, but that is a local issue that they could still be made exempt in some other manner, regardless of the IRS c3 letter.
Anyway just some thoughts, loved the museum. Loved the Danbury Baptist letter in its original form, nice touch.
